VARNISHING
Fluorine is key element increasing tooth hard tissues
resistance against caries.
Fluorine decreases caries incidence of caries by 30 to 70%.
Anticarietic action of fluorine:
- provides optimal teeth mineralization during development
period
- posses affinity to calcium, creates calcium fluorine, fluoroappites on dental surfaces.
This phenomenon of building up impregnating protective layer helps to protect the enamel
against acids.
- enamel reminaralization – small damages of enamel can repaired because
of fluorine ions present in the saliva
- inhibits dental plaque growth responsible for caries
Varnishing – contact fluorine prophylaxis
We succesfully implement fluorine varnishing methods: FluorProtector used twice a year,
and Duraphat applied three time a year.
These materials remain on enamel surface from a few hours to a few days, and even
longer in fissures. They are very effective in reducing caries incidence, especially on
contact and gingival surfaces, and it’s efficacy is estimated at about 40 to 70%.
Moreover:
Fluorine pastes can be applied even a few time a day by everyone:
no matter what age and fluorine concentration
In children under six, use of fluorine pastes should be supervised. School program
for brushing with fluorine preparations is recommended in children and teenagers.
Exogenous fluorization (contact)can be combination of two or more methods.
Professional fluorization should be done in children with high risk symptoms for caries.
