WHITENING METHODS
There are numerous methods of teeth whitening, starting from
using whitening pastes and other inexpensive products, which
remove superficial discolorations, finishing with professional
whitening methods used in dental clinic.
EXTERNAL WHITENING METHODS IN THE CLINIC
Whitening with highly concentrated gel, teeth are isolated from
environment of the mouth by coferdam – disposable rubber,
which is applied on each tooth, in order to protect the gums
Advantages:
- Procedure is performed under close supervision
- Short whitening time
- Immediate effect
- Soft tissues protection
Disadvantages:
- Considerable cost
- Not fully predictable effect
- Short durability of the effect in comparison with overnight
overlay method
- Possibility of pulp thermal injury
Whitening in the clinic can be thermally induced:
- Argonium laser
- Carbon dioxide
- Plasma lamp
NIGHT OVERLAY WHITENING
This is method of choice successfully used in our clinic.
Before starting the procedure:
we evaluate patient’s expectations
evaluate starting tooth shade, which is reference for
whitening effects
perform professional teeth cleaning
provide caries treatment
We also inform the patient, that existing fillings and prosthetic
supplements are not subject to whitening. 
Method requires making individual teeth overlays. Whitening
splints are made in laboratory basing on patient’s dentition model.
Method of use:
Brush the teeth well
Apply whitening material in the gel, which closely sticks
to dental surfaces after putting overlays
Splints are put for 7-10 days
In our clinic we use preparations produced by Opalesence from
Ultradent and Nite White from Excel
