TEETH TRAUMA
Teeth trauma in children concern both milk and permanent
dentition. Most often it comes to traumatic damage between
20 and 30 months of life, when child starts to walk and in
age 7 to11 – first school years, when trauma are related to
sport and play. In permanent teeth, most often, top incisors
are damaged.
Single, sharp mechanical trauma acting on front part of bony
face can cause different type of teeth damage:
Teeth contusion
Tooth fracture
Tooth dislocation or tooth knocking
Many teeth injuries coexist with jaw and mandible fractures, and also with
soft tissue injury.
Tooth knocking – in case of severe trauma it comes to removal of the tooth
from tooth-socket, knocked tooth usually is displaced outside the mouth.
It is important to find the tooth, rinse it under water, place it in the cold milk
or saliva (physiologic salt), at best in the buccal vestibule. Tooth is then inserted
in the tooth socket and immobilized.
Always in case of trauma you should immediately contact the dentist.
Child will be examined, x-ray image will be done, and after giving diagnosis
certain treatment will introduced.
The effect of the therapy depends greatly on time from the moment of injury
to the beginning of specialized treatment. If there is a loss of consciousness
(even short lasting), child has to undergo diagnostics of central nervous treatment
in the emergency department, especially incase of headaches, vertigo, balance
disturbances or light intolerance.
During the visit we precisely describe current status, giving date, time, place
and circumstances of the injury and also procedures related to diagnostics
and treatment.
Medical files are crucial for eventual cost refund from insurance company.
